Pocono May 3rd, 2019 HPDE


Pocono 2.5 Mile IMSA

The Audi Club North America New Jersey Chapter will be hosting our annual one-day HPDE event at Pocono Raceway on Friday, May 3rd, 2019. We will have access to the entire Pocono Raceway facility and will run the 2.5 Mile IMSA course configuration. The IMSA Course uses the North Course and three – quarters of the NASCAR Tri-Oval. The IMSA Course runs the opposite direction of NASCAR on the Tri-Oval. Upon driving down the front straight opposite direction from NASCAR you enter the “North Course” just past pit lane. Upon completing the road course portion of the 2.5 miles you enter back onto the NASCAR Superspeedway just prior to NASCAR Turn 2. The 3,055 foot Long Pond Straight is just ahead and then the exciting NASCAR High Banked Turn 1 (14 degrees) which exits back onto the long front straight completing one lap.

Requirements for May 3, 2019:

Must have the first page of the Tech Inspection form completed by a certified mechanic 2 weeks prior to the event.

Brake fluid must be flushed prior to the event.

There will be a safety check on the day of the event which your car must pass to be eligible to participate.

Failure to meet safety check or incomplete Tech forms will disqualify students from event and forfeiture of entry fee.

Open cars (convertibles) must have rollover protection which meets or exceeds the specs found here. No SUVs are permitted on track.

Equal restraints (seats and belts) are required for driver and instructor and must be securely mounted to stock mounting points or directly to the frame.

All drivers must have a helmet with a Snell SA or M rating of 2010 or newer. No motorcycle helmets. A limited number of helmets are available for rent.

New to HPDE?
Our annual One-Day High Performance Driver Education Event (HPDE) at Pocono is an excellent event to have your first taste of the track. High Performance Driving is NOT racing however, it does provide you with the rare opportunity to push your car’s limits in a safe and fun environment. Students receive one on one in car instruction from a certified HPDE Instructor. Our instructors have countless track days with the most renowned Driver Education and Racing organizations. Audi Club North America, Porsche Club of America, BMW Car Club of America, Corvette Club of America, National Auto Sport Association and the Sports Car Club of America just to name a few.

Classroom sessions will be held at the event as well. All beginner and intermediate students are required to attend the classroom sessions held at the event. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss with the classroom instructor and other students vehicle dynamics and driving techniques.

High Performance Driving is an excellent way for drivers to improve their daily driving habits. Many students will notice changes from attending just one HPDE event. Taking the knowledge gained from an HPDE experience and utilizing it on the street is the ultimate defense for the real world


Pre-Event Tech Inspection
The Pre-Event Tech Inspection is a safety inspection that Audi Club NJ requires all cars participating in the event to undergo. No Exceptions. All participants must have their cars inspected by a Certified Mechanic within 2 weeks of the event and allow enough time to fix any issues which are uncovered. The Certified Mechanic must complete and sign our Pre-Event Tech Inspection Form. Failure to have this inspection completed prior to the event will disqualify you from participation in the event and your entry fee will be forfeited.

Most dealerships and automotive repair facilities will preform the Pre-Event Tech Inspection at no charge.

Classes and Run Groups
All participants will be organized into different classes and run groups. During the online registration process, registrants will be asked to select one of three different classes: Student, Advanced/Solo and Instructor.

Students – Participants who require an instructor in the car.

Advanced/Solo – Participants who do Not require an instructor in the car.

Instructor – Certified as an instructor with ACNA or any other recognized HPDE club/organization. Instructors who have not instructed with ACNA-NJ before, must contact the Chief Instructor Scott Lynn (slynn@acna-nj.org) before registering.

In addition to your class, you will select a Run Group. There are four different levels of Run Groups.

Green – Little to no HPDE experience. Requires an Instructor.

Yellow – Some HPDE experience. Requires an Instructor.

Blue/White – This is a mixed level of experience. Some students still require an Instructor (Blue) and some do not require an Instructor (White). This is an intermediate/advanced group, a certain amount of track days is required.

Red/Black – This is an advanced group. Red Group drivers must meet a certain amount of track days. Black Group drivers must be Instructors/coaches.

*Registrations for upper level Run Groups will be reviewed and assigned upon confirmation of track experience.

Student Instructor Assignments
Students and Instructors will receive their assignments approximately 2 weeks before the event. It is recommended that instructors contact their students prior to the event to introduce themselves and answer any questions the student may have about them or driving on track.

Track Pack
Prior to the event, all confirmed registrants will receive an email containing an event information packet. This PDF will contain all the information you will need to know for the event. Including the official schedule, run group assignments, rules, policies, event tech form, etc.

Arriving at Pocono
The morning of Friday, May 3rd, the track gate will open at 7:00 am. Attendees may proceed to the paddock area and or to their pre-ordered garage space. Event check-in/registration will be open at 7:00am and is located in the Crew Lounge. The Crew Lounge is located next to garage #15. At the event registration/check-in, attendees will receive a package, this package will contain a wristband, car number, lanyard, your pre-ordered t-shirt (if purchased during the online registration), student/instructor assignment, schedule, track map and other essential materials for the event.

Event Tech Inspection
After registration, participants must completely empty their cars before proceeding to the tech line. This includes but is not limited to: EZ passes, radar detectors, floor matts, tools, water bottles, luggage, spare parts, etc. Once the car is completely empty, please place your car numbers (found in the package you received at check-in) on the rear side windows of the car. Be sure to bring your completed Pre-Event Tech form, our tech team will ask for it. Then proceed to the Event Tech Line located in garages #44 and #43. Most attendees will have to drive around the garage building to enter the tech line.

The Event Tech Inspection will open at 7:00 am and close at 8:00 am.


Drivers’ Meeting

There is a mandatory drivers meeting located in garage #16 at 8:00 am.

Instructors’ Meeting

The instructors meeting will be held at 8:00 am in garage #15.

First Run Group will proceed to staging (Pit Lane) after the Drivers’ Meeting. First car will be out on track at 8:30 am.

Ride Alongs

Passengers are only allowed in registered instructor cars. Advanced/solo drivers are not permitted to take passengers out for ride alongs.
